A Brief Note on “A two-day orientation program for newly elected representatives on local government operation and local development at Sudurpaschim Province”

A two-day long orientation program on local government operation and local development to the newly elected representatives of 88 LGs Mayor/Deputy Mayor and Chairperson/Vice Chairperson has been carried out successfully which took place in Dhangadhi Kailali from 25th-26th Jestha 2079. The orientation program was facilitated by Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration / PLGSP and was organized by the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, Sudurpaschim Province / Provincial Good Governance Center, Doti. The objective of the program was to orient and interact on LG operation and local development with newly elected local level mayor / Deputy and Chairperson / Vice-Chairperson. The orientation program was chaired by Hon’ble Chief Minister Mr Trilochan Bhatt, Hon’able Minister Mr Rajendra Prasad Shrestha from the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration was chief guest in the program. The guests were Hon’ble ministers Mr Deergha Bahadur Sodari and Dr. Rana Bahadur Rawal from SuPa Physical Infrastructure Development ministry and Internal Affairs and Law ministry respectively. OCMCM/Sudurpaschim Provincial government's Principal Secretary Mr Rameswar Dangal was also a guest for the said program. The Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority Hon'ble Commissioner Dr. Hari Paudel has presented his suggestions on the issue of local government operation. Mr. Rudra S Tamang Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, Mr Tuwraj Pokharel OCMCM/PPD/PLGSP, Law secretary of OCMCM, Executive Director/PCGG attended/coordinated/facilitated successfully completed the whole program.

There were 172 newly elected mayor / deputy mayor and chairpersons / vice-chairpersons of 86 local levels (Sub-Municipality: 1 Municipalities: 33 and Rural Municipalities: 54) took part in the program. During the program, subject matter experts from the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration and secretaries of provincial ministries trained and interacted with the newly elected people's representatives.
