Orientation on GESI-Sensitive Planning and Budgeting to Women Parliamentarians in Koshi Province
To strengthen the capacity of women members of the Provincial Assembly and members of the Social Development Committee in applying gender equality and social inclusion (GESI) principles in provincial planning and budgeting, a two-day orientation program was held in Bhedetar, Dhankuta. The event was organized by the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers (OCMCM) of Koshi Province, with support from Provincial and Local Government Strengthening Programme (PLGSP).
The event was inaugurated by Hon’ble Speaker of the Provincial Assembly, and chaired by State Minister. Other key attendees included Deputy Speaker, Principal Secretary, members of the Social Development Committee, Provincial Planning Director, Provincial Program Manager, OCMCM officials, and technical experts. A total of 36 members participated in the program.
Participants explored leadership traits, barriers to women's participation, and tools for gender-responsive budgeting. The program introduced key frameworks such as the Constitution of Nepal, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and relevant GESI policies. It also highlighted the need for institutional mechanisms to support gender-inclusive law-making and implementation.
Assembly members, including the Deputy Speaker, committed to increasing GESI-related budget allocations in the upcoming fiscal year, reinforcing Koshi Province’s dedication to gender-responsive governance.
