Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Training Program for Government Officials /Gender Focal Persons from Federal and Provincial level and PLGSP TA team

Social Inclusion and Social protection section of MoFAGA and PLGSP organized 3 days capacity building training on Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) for selected governmental officials from federal and Provincial governments, Constitutional commissions and PLGSP TA team from 23 to 25th November, 2022 in Kathmandu.

The training was organized with an aim to strengthen their understanding on GESI and equip them with required skills to apply the knowledge on Gender and Social Inclusion approaches and tools in gender sensitive and responsive planning, programs & budgeting, laws and policies formulation through GESI perspectives

The program content on GESI included key GESI concepts and issues including discriminatory gender and social norms, GRB, GBV, international and national gender and social inclusion policy tools such as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action for Equality, Development and Peace (BPFA), agendas for SDG, approaches/strategies to integrate GESI in Provincial and Local governments including GoN’s different obligations related with GESI i.e. state periodic report to the CEDAW Committee, implementation of concluding observations, GoN’s commitment to different international conventions and instruments to highlight the accountability of all three tiers of government to fulfill state obligations.

Including, many other important GESI related topics such as issues and concerns of disabled persons and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer (LGBTIQ) etc. All these sessions were designed and developed to generate practical knowledge and skills among the participants by involving them in interactive and participatory manner.

Altogether 45 i.e. 23 male and 22 female representing from different ministries of seven provinces, Constitutional Commissions, MoFAGA, MoWCSW, PLGSP TA team participated in the training.

A range of senior experts from Government of Nepal (GoN) as well as other individual thematic experts having national and international experiences and exposures in their respective areas i.e GESI, GESI mainstreaming, GRB and SDGs, GBV, disability, LGBTIQ, CEDAW were mobilized as resource person to facilitate different sessions during the training.

The training has been effective in building knowledge and strengthen their understanding on different aspects of Gender and social Inclusion and to equipped the participants with required skills to apply the knowledge on Gender and Social Inclusion approaches and tools in gender sensitive and responsive planning, programs & budgeting, laws and policies formulation through GESI perspectives. 

Besides, the program provided an excellent platform for cross learning and sharing amongst the participants on initiation and best practices on GESI taken by different provinces and federal level agencies.

Training participants from Provincial and federal level shared their commitments to make sure the overall learning of the training to effectively implement in all seven provinces through systematically disseminate the learnings of training; rolling out GESI trainings/orientation and to make sure GESI is well prioritize in their respective Provinces and federal level.
